Exploration Update v0.14


New Content:

  • Added a new rocky biome.
  • Added rock deposits that can be mined with a pickaxe.
  • Added the Rock Slime.
  • Added the Spatial Anchor (teleportation / fast travel system).
  • Added the Blast Furnace.
  • Added new background art for the forest (and background transitioning for biomes).
  • Added mushrooms to the forest.

Harvesting / Farming UX:

  • All vegegtation now auto-regrows by dropping seeds.
  • Added the Shovel for digging up seeds.
  • Improved the seed planting UX by putting it inside the build mode.
  • Overhauled the punch attack. It feels more responsive and meaty now.
  • Disabled 'E' harvesting. You destroy vegetation to farm it now.
  • Converted most timers to be future-based instead of tick-based. Which means crafting / seed growing will work even when you run away and unload the chunks.

General changes:

  • Made hunger more punishing.
  • New sprite for the Crafting Station.
  • Campfire is now always on.
  • Fixed VFX not playing out properly (the visual glitches that would hang in the air).
  • Removed the Crude Club (serves no purpose with the new punch attack).
  • Better diagnostics. Made it translucent so it's less obtrusive.
  • New vfx for death poof.

Core tech:

  • I decided to scrap any future plans for multiplayer and basically reverted the entire last update.
  • Going down that route was a mistake. I should've decided up-front that I wasn't going to implement multiplayer instead of sitting on the fence. It would've saved me a few weeks of effort. You live and you learn I guess...
  • The game now updates at a variable rate again since it's really not that big of a deal. There's just a simple frame limiter.
